Overview
A beautifully open-sounding Dominique Field from 1998, built during one of the maker’s most admired periods. Field’s guitars are beloved by players and collectors for good reason: they are refined, powerful, elegant, and outstandingly easy to play.
This example has the unmistakable beauty of the great French tradition, with echoes of Hauser and Bouchet in its balance and refinement, while still offering the volume and projection expected from a world-class modern concert instrument.
Sound & Playability
This guitar has a crisp yet sweet treble voice that is very difficult to replicate. The notes simply fly off the strings, with a quick, clean attack and a wonderful sense of openness across the register.
The sound has real body and depth, with a thick, almost creamy character balanced by clarity, focus, and immediacy. It is also exceptionally easy to play, which is one of the qualities that makes Dominique Field guitars so prized among concert players.
Design & Craftsmanship
Dominique Field is widely regarded as one of the most important French makers of his generation. His instruments are known for their distinctive design language, including his elegant headstock, rosette, plantilla, and overall aesthetic identity.
This 1998 example features a beautifully aged spruce top, Brazilian rosewood back and sides, and a French polished finish. It is a visually gorgeous instrument and a fine example of Field’s best work.
Condition
The guitar is in beautiful condition overall. There are two hairline cracks in the soundboard, described as virtually invisible, which were recently repaired by Richard Reynoso. The work is cleanly executed and the guitar presents beautifully.
